How it works

  • Step 1: Determine Bouquet Preservation Style

Choosing your preservation style is the first step to building a unique and special piece. With Pressed flowers, you transform beauty into an art piece suited for many different epoxy resin and framing options. With 3D drying, you keep that amazing shape of your flowers to admire at all different angles.

  • Step 2: Submit Preservation Payment

Submitting your preservation payment is the first step in reserving your date to preserve! This is a non-refundable deposit that solidifies your order. Please be mindful in choosing your bouquet size as accurately as possible. Final determination of size is up to the discretion of Bloom and Board.

Step 3: Sending Your Flowers (ASAP)

Preserving flowers is an extensive process and requires flowers to be at their peak condition to maintain quality and color. Please avoid excessive handling after event to avoid oils from hands touching the petals.

Shipping: If you know the date of your event, arrange to ship out your flowers immediately after for overnight shipping or as soon as possible. Flower stems should be bundled together, wrapped with damp paper towels to keep hydrated, and secured with aluminum foil. Choose a large enough box to place the bouquet onto a bed of tissue paper on all sides. Avoid bubble wrap and plastic wraps as those capture and retain moisture. Opt for brown paper packaging and tissue paper.

Local Delivery: Keep stems hydrated in water or in refrigerator (away from produce) until able to be delivered.

  • Cozy indoor setting with a knitted blanket and a person holding a cup of tea. Candles, a plant, and an e-reader on the table near a window.

    Step 4: Choosing Your Piece

During the preservation process, you can think of the piece(s) you’d like to order. This is approximately 2-3 weeks. If you do not know what piece you’d like, you will have 1 week from the date your flowers are finished drying to determine their use. Each week beyond that time period requires a $30/week storage fee.

Choosing your piece or pieces highly depends on the style of preservation you choose. Sometimes your piece dictates how you need your flowers preserved.

Epoxy Resin: Epoxy resin pieces are a great way to preserve your flowers in a modern and extravagant way. A variety of epoxy pieces are available for you to choose from ranging in all sizes. These pieces typically use 3D dried flowers to ensure a dimensional effect. There are some exceptions such as coasters and other flat pieces that need pressed flowers. Epoxy resin pieces are best suited for indoor spaces, away from direct sunlight, in a temperature controlled and low humidity environment. Epoxy resin hardens when cured and can soften if heated. In addition, direct sunlight can accelerate the yellowing process of the resin (particularly with clear resin) and the fading of the flowers incorporated.

Frames: Flower frames are timeless and traditional. The floating frame effect is the most popular style as the flowers perfectly blend into your home. Solid colored backings are also very beneficial as there is an added layer of protection from any light source. Solid colors also give perfect contrast to really make your flowers pop off the page.

Step 5: Flower Drying Process (1-6 weeks)

Drying 3D flowers: A delicate process that requires the flowers to be 100% void of moisture to prevent molding or decomposition inside the resin. This process can take anywhere between 1-3 weeks depending on the flowers. Flowers will be treated with a UV resistant sealant post drying to add that extra layer of protection to the color.

Pressing flowers: It’s a labor of love. Each flower must be carefully handled, often taken petal by petal, and reconstructed once fully pressed. Because many flowers change color when pressed, we suggest color correction to restore the desired vibrancy. This process can take anywhere between 2-6 weeks.

Step 6: Pour Process (2-4 weeks) and Framing Process (1-2 weeks)

The epoxy pour process is a unique and technical process requiring trained skills to work with epoxy resin chemicals in the correct ratios and pouring layers.

The framing process involves the perfect placement of your blooms into your chosen frame. The flowers are secured into the frame with a small dollop of glue.

Step 7: Epoxy Finishing Coats (1-3 weeks)

Lastly, the finishing process can be an iterative process involving many sanding discs! Once the piece has cured, we pour a final tabletop coating for extra shine, durability, and UV protection.
